Interesting

http://www.diet-blog.com/05/the_end_of_the_hourglass_figure.php

36-24-36 = genius: Data from the National Center for Health Statistics suggests that children of moms with wide hips but a low waist-to-hip ratio (the classic hourglass figure) score highest on intelligence tests. The explanation? Fatty acids stored in hip fat aid brain development in fetuses—womanly curves create brain power, literally.

Do you like Michael Jackson?

If so, you need to see WHO'S BAD! They are a Michael Jackson cover band that plays all over the world! Some of the member in the band are NC natives! It is hands down a great show! I don't know how the dance around like that....amazing to see! Check out the video's above! They recently visited the United Kingdom...but were back in Chapel Hill last night!

We started out the night with homemade pizza at my place....invited some friends over for dinner then went out to Cat's Cradle to see the show! Great night if you ask me! Check out Who's Bad and see if they are touring near you!

I Passed!!!

Yes! I did it!

I passed the CCRN!

The CCRN is a certification for critical care nurses. It is not a required certification, but is something that I've always wanted to get since starting in the Intensive Care at UNC!

Lullaby

This is a new favorite of mine....Dixie Chick's Lullaby
They didn't have you where I come from
Never knew the best was yet to come
Life began when I saw your face
And I hear your laugh like a serenade

How long do you want to be loved
Is forever enough, is forever enough
How long do you want to be loved
Is forever enough
Cause I'm never, never giving you up

I slip in bed when you're asleep
To hold you close and feel your breath on me
Tomorrow there'll be so much to do
So tonight I'll drift in a dream with you

How long do you want to be loved
Is forever enough, is forever enough
How long do you want to be loved
Is forever enough
Cause I'm never, never giving you up

As you wander through this troubled world
In search of all things beautiful
You can close your eyes when you're miles away
And hear my voice like a serenade

How long do you want to be loved
Is forever enough, is forever enough
How long do you want to be loved
Is forever enough
Cause I'm never, never giving you up

How long do you want to be loved
Is forever enough, is forever enough
How long do you want to be loved
Is forever enough
Cause I'm never, never giving you up
Is forever enough
Cause I'm never, never giving you up

Labor Day weekend

I was one of the few "laboring"...

...just a day in the life of nursing!

I was a slave at UNC Hospital working Sunday and Monday! Sunday I worked in my normal unit Surgery/Trauma Intensive Care and I picked up a extra shift Monday in the Medicine Intensive Care (MICU). I tell everyone that the MICU is my overtime spot of choice. It's something about getting out of your regular unit, interacting with different nurses, doctors and patients. It's a nice change!

Afterward Mondays shift, my nurse friend Mike and I decompressed with dinner at Milltown in Carrboro!! Delicious!

Emergency Room observations

I was trying to find a funny patient interaction video...but this came up and it's just too funny to leave out!

I'm normally not the patient at UNC Hospital but last night I hurt my shoulder at work...and became a ED patient for a few hours. While sitting in the triage waiting room, I was able to observe the interactions between patients...the crap they talk about each other, what they say about the nurses, self diagnosing each other, etc. I was not able to disguise myself (sitting in my UNC blue scrubs), but this didn't deter them from bashing the hospital staff.

One woman talking about taking someone elses chicken nuggets or fighting them....patients speaking about a family that didn't speak English....one patient told another patient she had a kidney stone...one woman was so sick....she left and went to the cafe then came back complaining it was taking forever...calling people "fat-a$$ motha...." ya get the drift....then there was ME thinking (how did I get mixed up with this crowd!)....

It just amazes me...kudos to ER nurses!

Defiantly a new experience being on the other side of the hospital...a patient!
