Dr. Oz Green Drink

My Dr. Oz Green Drink- 2.5 cups spinach, 6 stalks of celery, 1 cup cucumber, juice of a lime and a lemon, 2 bananas.

Made basically three servings.
Verdict- It's a lot of celery....but drinkable!

Operation: Get Healthy in 2011!

It's amazing and frustrating how you pack on pounds during the winter months! Back in the summer I discovered Dr. Joel Fuhrman. See previous blog!

I was doing well on his modified vegetarian plan- had more energy, saw a change in my appearance and just felt healthy! Then....things went to crap. I had a hamburger and remembered why I loved that hamburger...but felt awful!

I'm back on track for 2011!

Plan:
Breakfast- Smoothie (Fruit + Spinach)

Dr. Oz has a smoothie you can try out or modify-

Ingredients
2 cups spinach
2 cups cucumber
1 head of celery
1/2 inch or teaspoon ginger root
1 bunch parsley
2 apples
Juice of 1 lime
Juice of 1/2 lemon

Directions

Combine all ingredients in a blender. This makes approximately 28-30 ounces, or 3-4 servings.

(Like the GREEN color?!?!)

Lunch-

Green salad with beans (for protein of course!)

Fruit for dessert

Dinner-

Raw or cooked vegetable

Fruit for dessert

Sound plain? Just jazz it up with some hummus or anything to add variety!!!

Here is a recipe I made today-

Eggplant dip

Ingredients:

1 eggplant

1 tomato, diced

1 green peppers or 1 red pepper, diced

1 large onion, diced

1 teaspoon Mrs. Dash seasoning mix

Directions:

Bake the eggplant in the oven at 350 degrees for one hour or microwave it for 8-11 minutes.

In a covered, shallow pan or pot, steam-fry the tomato, pepper, and onion until soft.

Scoop out or peel the eggplant and blend it with the steamed vegetables and seasoning.

Haven't tried it yet...but it looks delicious!!!

Twas the Night Before Christmas- Nursing!

To all my nurse friends....I thought this was cute!!!

Merry Christmas!!!

Twas the Night Before Christmas -A Nursing Version

Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the floor
Lasix was given, filling foleys galore.
Stockings were worn to prevent emboli,
they came in two sizes, knee and thigh high.

The patients were nestled half-@$$ed in their beds,
while visions of stool softeners danced in their heads.
We in our scrubs, and they in their gowns,
Fashion created to hide extra pounds.

When down in the ER it became such a zoo,
they called with admissions for me and you.
They're coming, they're going, and they're all looking the same.
My patience for patients is starting to wane.

Now call lights are ringing, the patient 400 pounds,
says "Didnt get my pericare, send my nurse now".
And now delegation seems the best plan,
We try to send others, for the needs of this man.

When what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But Santa himself and 8 tiny reindeer.
Hey says he comes from Central Supply.
To bring us LR, NS, & D5.

The doctors then scribbled what no one could read.
Orders on patients, to measure their pee.
We try to decipher illegible words,
orders for patients, to guaiac their turds.

The new shift arriving, our day is now through,
How did stool & emesis get in my shoe?
We give them report and pass on the facts,
and tell them of duoderm lining the cracks.

And the nurses exclaim as they limp out of sight,
"Ativan to all, and to all a good night".

Liz and Juan's wedding!

December 11, 2010 my bestie Liz and her love Juan tied the knot!

After many many month of planning the weekend finally arrived! The girls started off Friday at noon getting our nails done! After nails was the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner! I'm missing pictures from the rehearsal dinner...but it was amazing! Lots of Colombia food- empanadas!!! Yummy!

Saturday, we went and got our hair done! It was off and on raining during the day...which the pastor said meant FERTILITY! Watch Out!

After a few tears were shed during the ceremony, it was time to PARTY! The reception was held at The Franklin in Chapel Hill. It was gorgeous!!!

Chocolate cake-delicious! Notice Lukas and Bino on the side!!!

I caught the bouquet and Ben Falk caught the garter! Here is our "first dance"!

After the reception, the newlyweds road away in the pedicab. Juan being such a avid cycler, this only seemed appropriate!!!

LOVE!!!
